The story of Maurice Nwokeji who, as a child, survived bombs and hunger during the civil war in Biafra. After the war, his parents living in the UK, arranged for Maurice and his brother to join them in Hackney, London. Ugwumpiti is the word that children coined to describe the daily mixture of cornflour and water, provided by the International Red Cross, that kept them alive.
