Kwadacha by the River
Kwadacha (Northern British Columbia) 19:54
In the late 1960โs, the Kwadacha First Nation were flooded out of their Northern BC territory by the W.A.C. Bennett Dam – one of the largest hydroelectric dams in the world. With neighbouring communities at risk from the construction of a new dam, itโs time for Kwadacha to tell their story.
This film was made collaboratively with Elders, Knowledge Holders and community members. We hired and trained community members to make the film with us, and worked closely for three years to build relationships. We facilitated a week long animation workshop in the school to create an animation that helps tell the story of a boat capsizing with the flooding of Kwadacha’s territory. We negotiated unique protocol and intellectual property agreements, including ensuring that Kwadacha holds onto final cut and holds the copyright to the film. Please contact the directors to view this film.
