Sinai Stories
The films produced by the AHRC funded Storytelling for All project celebrate and preserve the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Bedouin community. These films highlight the value of traditional knowledge as a sustainable practice for climate change mitigation, and emphasize the vital role of of intergenerational knowledge transfer.There are society restrictions on representation in the Bedouin community for women which mean being in front of the camera would have been very difficult to achieve and would have caused problems. Using stop animatio was a creative intervention to avoid these issues. Moreover it allowed the stories to be told about places that would have been costly to travel and film in. Using wool to ‘craft’ the film sets and characters allowed the project to connect with many women’s traditional heritage craft knowledge as well as being a biodegradable and natural material that many were already familiar with from raising livestock.
Each film offers a different story of a unique place, told by the people who live there.
