Emonda and I
This short montage sets out to challenge normative notions of kinship, adulthood, and femininity by delving into the embodied world of a childfree woman, Aga, who dedicates her everyday life to endurance cycling. Historically, cycling has represented both autonomy and freedom, as well as bodily regulation, for women; this film revisits and updates these tensions through a contemporary lens.
Moreover, research on women and cycling often portrays a narrow figure of women cyclists—risk-averse and constrained by caregiving responsibilities. Following Irigaray’s call to speak as women rather than of women, this research seeks to broaden the imagination of what counts as a woman cyclist—and as womanhood more generally.
